Vishay introduces its new integrated UV sensor, the VEML6070, which uses Filtron UV technology for high UV sensitivity and linearity. The Vishay Semiconductors VEML6070 integrates an optical pin diode and signal processing IC into a small 2.35mm x 1.8mm x 1.0mm surface-mount package that converts solar UV intensity into digital data for consumer, medical and industrial electronics applications. An I2C bus interface is provided to simplify operation.

     Vishay introduces the VEML6070, a new integrated UV sensor using Filtron™ UV technology for high UV sensitivity and linearity.      The device is suitable for ultraviolet detection in smartphones, health monitoring and fitness products, flame detectors and weather stations. The sensor combines the circuits required for these applications in a small unit with a robust refresh rate setting, thus eliminating the need for additional RC low-pass filters, reducing costs and simplifying design.

     With high dynamic detection resolution, it can maintain excellent performance even under prolonged exposure to solar ultraviolet light, and the Active response (ACK) function with threshold window setting can send UVI alarm signals under strong daylight conditions.

     The VEML6070 has a built-in optical pin diode with a spectral sensitivity of 280nm ~ 400nm and a peak sensitivity wavelength of 355nm. The sensor is not affected by the fluorescent lamp stroboscope, and the software shutdown mode reduces power consumption to less than 1μA, with good temperature compensation stability in the range of -40 ° C to +85 ° C. The device's operating voltage and I2C bus voltage range from 2.7V to 5.5V and is packaged in lead-free OPLGA. The VEML6070 meets RoHS and Vishay green standards and is halogen-free.
