Vishay introduces high power UV leds with a new ceramic substrate with silicone lenses

     Vishay Intertechnology has announced the launch of the new high power UV LED- VLMU5200-385-140 - with a new ceramic substrate with silicone lenses. The Vishay Semiconductors VLMU5200-385-140 is a stable, energy efficient alternative to mercury lamps with a very long service life and is available in a 5.2mm x 5.2mm x 3.1mm surface mount package for medical, industrial and printing applications.

     The VLMU5200-385-140 silicone lens achieves an extremely long service life, far exceeding that of a typical mercury lamp. Environmentally friendly UV leds are heavy metal-free, impact-resistant, and do not deteriorate due to frequent on/off, improving reliability. The mercury lamp requires a complex drive circuit and a 15-minute warm-up time, while the VLMU5200-385-140 requires only a simple low-voltage circuit and does not take time to warm up.

     Manufactured using InGaN technology, the device has typical irradiation power of 2,500 MW and 3,600 MW at 500mA and 700mA currents, respectively, with wavelengths ranging from 380nm to 390nm.
