Vishay announces new bi-symmetric (BiSy) single-wire ESD protection diodes

     Vishay has announced a new bi-symmetric (BiSy) single-wire ESD protection diode, the VBUS05B1-SD0, in an ultra-small CLP0603 package for portable electronics. Measuring just 0.6mm x 0.3mm and as low as 0.27mm in height, Vishay Semiconductors VBUS05B1-SD0 features ultra-low capacitance and leakage current to protect high-speed data lines and antennas from transient voltage signals.

     The VBUS05B1-SD0 uses a chip-level package in size 0603, one of the smallest in the industry, and takes up three times less board space than the 1006 form factor package. Due to the short lead and small package size, the diode has a very low line inductance and is able to clamp fast transients such as ESD spikes and achieve minimal overshoot or undershoot.

     The VBUS05B1-SD0 has a typical load capacitor of only 0.29pF and a maximum of 0.4pF, which can be used to protect high-speed data ports such as HDMI, USB 3.0 and Thunderbolt in smartphones, mobile phones, digital cameras, MP3 players and portable game consoles. At 5.5V operating voltage, the maximum leakage current of the device is less than 0.1μA, the typical breakdown voltage at 1mA is 8.8V, and the maximum clamping voltage at 2.5A is 18V.

     The VBUS05B1-SD0 is capable of providing transient protection for a data line with a protection rating of ±16kV(air and contact discharge) as required by IEC 61000-4-2. The device has moisture sensitivity (MSL) to J-STD-020 Class 1, fire resistance to UL 94 V-0, and reflow +260 ° C for 10 seconds as per JEDEC STD-020. Protection diodes comply with RoHS and Vishay green standards and are halogen-free.
