Up to 2Tb QLC flash memory with the latest 3D flash technology

     KIOXIA Europe GmbH has begun shipping samples of 2Tb (terabit) qud-level-cell (QLC) storage devices using its eighth generation BiCS FLASH 3D flash memory technology. The device has the highest capacity in the industry, and taking storage devices to a new capacity point will drive growth in multiple application areas, including artificial intelligence.

     With its latest BiCS FLASH technology, the company enables vertical and horizontal scaling of memory chips through proprietary processes and innovative architectures. In addition, the company has implemented the groundbreaking CBA (CMOS Direct Bonded Array) technology, which allows for the creation of higher density devices and industry-leading 3.6Gbps interface speeds. Together, these advanced technologies were applied to the creation of the 2Tb QLC, resulting in the highest capacity storage device in the industry.

     Compared to the company's current fifth-generation QLC devices, the 2Tb QLC offers about 2.3 times better bit density and about 70 percent better write power efficiency, the 2TB QLC offers about 2.3 times better bit density and about 70 percent better write power efficiency, the highest capacity of its products. The latest QLC devices feature a 16-chip stack architecture in a single memory package, enabling industry-leading capacity of 4 terabytes (tb). It has a smaller package size of 11.5mm x 13.5mm and a package height of 1.5mm.

     The company has added a 1Tb QLC storage device to the 2Tb QLC. Compared to the capacity-optimized 2Tb QLC, the performance-optimized 1Tb QLC improves sequential write performance by about 30% and read latency by about 15%. The 1Tb QLC will be deployed in high-performance applications, including client SSDS and mobile devices.
