Toshiba launches application processor for wearable devices
Toshiba Corporation announced the launch of the "TZ1041MBG", an application processor for wearable devices, the latest in addition to its Application Lite ™ series TZ1000 series of Internet of Things (IOT) solutions, first released in March 2014. Sample delivery will be in October for mass production scheduled for January 2016.
The TZ1041MBG meets the growing market demand for iot devices by supporting a variety of external sensors, providing a universal communication environment, which uses Bluetooth's expanded hub capabilities.
The new processor integrates Bluetooth v4.1's controller and processor, capable of I/O from various data captured via connected external sensors, such as I2C, UART, SPI and ADC, and it also uses flash memory to save data.
Data processing and the storage of multiple aware objects required for iot devices can be performed simultaneously through the new processor. In addition, the TZ1041MBG can be used as a Bluetooth hub to collect, process and store the execution of data, while its automatic reconnection function improves the operational efficiency and availability of the user system by using low duty cycle targeted advertising.
Like other TZ1000 series devices, the TZ1041MBG incorporates low-power design features that allow it to vary the power supply voltage in response to the processor frequency. This makes it suitable for wearable products that require long operating times.
Toshiba also supports the TZ1000 series of complex software algorithms such as activity monitoring, PPG (photoelectric volume) monitoring and ECG (electrocardiogram) monitoring, which provides a complete system solution for wearable products.
