The smallest display controller ever made allows 4K UHD projectors to display anywhere

Texas Instruments has released a new display controller that allows the smallest, fastest, and lowest-power 4K UHD projectors. Measuring just 9mm x 9mm, or the width of a pencil eraser, the DLPC8445 display controller is the smallest of its kind while allowing a diagonal display of 100" or more in vivid image quality with ultra-low latency.

     Texas Instruments has announced a new display controller that enables the smallest, fastest, lowest power 4K UHD projectors. At just 9mm x 9mm, or the width of a pencil eraser, the DLPC8445 display controller is the smallest in its class, while allowing a diagonal display of 100 inches or more of vivid image quality with ultra-low latency. When combined with the company's compatible DMD DLP472TP and PMIC DLPA3085 with LED drivers, its new controller allows designers to replicate the display experience of high-end TVS and gaming monitors in the form of a compact projector.

     Jeff Marsh, vice president and general manager of DLP products at Texas Instruments, said: "Everyday consumers are now looking for immersive display entertainment, not just movie buffs and gamers. "Where consumers once needed a large TV or monitor to get a clear display, now they can use a lifestyle or gaming projector to turn the wall into the screen size of their choice in 4K Ultra HD quality." Our new controller is the latest example of how TI DLP technology can help engineers develop entertainment displays that you can take with you."

     Lifestyle and gaming projectors are growing in popularity as consumers seek immersive experiences in content ranging from movies and games to TV shows. With the company's new controller and DMD, designers can produce displays with latency up to sub-milliseconds, matching or exceeding the world's most high-end gaming displays, and reducing latency for players.

     The DLP chipset integrates VRR support for the first time, allowing designers to easily synchronize frame rates and eliminate latency, image tearing and stuttering, resulting in better displays for gamers. Advanced image correction features dynamically adjust surface defects, making it easy for consumers to take their gaming and viewing experience anywhere. It is also the first DLP controller designed for battery-powered projectors for laser lighting.
