The latest generation of UFS 4.0 embedded flash devices
KIOXIA Europe Ltd. has announced that it has begun sampling its latest UFS Ver generation. 4.0 Embedded flash memory devices. The new products support 256GB, 512GB and 1TB capacities and are suitable for a variety of next-generation mobile applications, including cutting-edge smartphones.
The enhanced performance of the new UFS product provides the best utilization of 5G connectivity, which accelerates downloads, minimizes latency, and improves the user experience. The smaller package size helps improve board space efficiency and design flexibility.
Key features include read and write speeds that are approximately +15% faster than the previous generation for sequential write, +50% for random write, and +30% for random read. Compared to the previous generation, its package size is reduced by 9 mm by 13 mm, and the package thickness is 0.8 mm (256GB and 512GB) and 0.9 mm (1TB), which is about 18 percent smaller than the traditional package size (11 mm by 13 mm).
The latest UFS Ver.4.0 device integrates the company's innovative BiCS FLASH 3D flash memory and controller in a JEDEC standard package. UFS 4.0 includes MIPI M-PHY 5.0 and UniPro 2.0, supporting theoretical interface speeds of 23.2Gbps per channel or 46.4Gbps per device. UFS 4.0 is backward compatible with UFS 3.1.
