The industry's first analog and digital fusion control power solution

     Rohm introduces LogiCoA, a power solution for small and medium power industrial and consumer devices (30W to 1kW class). It provides the same functionality as a fully digital control power supply, with low power consumption and cost equivalent to analog power supply types.

     Analog control power supplies are commonly used in industrial robots and semiconductor manufacturing equipment, operating in the medium power range. However, in recent years, these power supplies have also been required to provide a high level of reliability and precise control, making it difficult for analog only configurations to meet market demand. On the other hand, although fully digital control power supplies can be finely controlled and set up, they are not widely adopted in the small and medium power range due to the high power consumption and cost of digital controllers.

     To solve this problem, the company developed LogiCoA power solutions that leverage the advantages of analog and digital technologies. LogiCoA mcu with high performance and low power consumption is used to control various power supply topologies.

     The LogiCoA brand stands for a design philosophy that incorporates digital elements to maximize the performance of analog circuits. The power solution claims to be the industry's first "analog-digital fusion control" power supply, combining a digital control block centered on a device MCU with an analog circuit composed of silicon MOSFETs and other power devices.

     In an all-digital control power supply, functions handled by a digital controller, such as a high-speed cpu or dsp, can be handled by a low-level mcu, enabling increased functionality that is difficult to achieve with analog control power supplies at low power consumption and cost. By storing different Settings in the MCU, such as current and voltage values, the solution allows performance changes in peripheral components to be corrected based on the power supply circuit. Therefore, there is no need to consider the design margin, unlike the analog control power supply, which helps to provide a smaller power supply, providing higher reliability. Most importantly, since operation log data can be recorded in the MCU's non-volatile memory, it is ideal for power supplies in industrial equipment that need to be recorded as a backup in case of failure.

     The REF66009 enables users to experience LogiCoA power solutions in non-isolated buck converter circuits. Various tools required for evaluation are also provided, including circuit diagrams, PCB layout, part lists, sample software and supporting documentation, while actual equipment evaluation can be performed by using the optional LogiCoA001-EVK-001 evaluation board.
