The SiC diode portfolio is now available for automotive and wider industrial applications

     Nexperia announced that its first-in-class 650V, 10A SiC Schottky diode is now automotive certified (PSC1065H-Q) in a real two-pin (R2P) DPAK (to-252-2) package for a variety of applications in electric vehicles and other vehicles. In addition, in a further expansion of its SiC diode portfolio, the company now offers industrial-grade devices currently rated at 6 a, 16A and 20A in to-220-2, to-247-2 and D2PAK-2 packages for greater design flexibility. These diodes meet the requirements of high voltage and high current applications, including switching power supplies, AC/DC and DC-DC converters, battery charging infrastructure, motor drivers, UPS and photovoltaic inverters for sustainable energy production.

     The combined PiN Schottky (MPS) structure of these devices offers additional advantages over competing SiC diodes, including excellent robustness to inrush currents. This eliminates the need for additional protection circuits, which greatly reduces system complexity and allows hardware designers to achieve greater efficiency in a smaller form factor in rugged, high-power applications. The company's consistent quality across a variety of semiconductor technologies provides designers with confidence in the reliability of these diodes.

     In addition, the company's "thin SiC" technology provides a thinner substrate (one-third of its original thickness) that greatly reduces the thermal resistance from the junction to the backing metal. This results in lower operating temperatures, higher reliability and equipment life, higher inrush current capability and lower forward voltage drop.
