Tantalum moulded chip capacitors provide enhanced performance for detonation systems

     Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. offers a new series of TANTAMOUNT surface mount solid tantalum die-pressed chip capacitors designed specifically for electronic explosive systems. The Vishay Sprague TX3 series devices combine a robust mechanical design, low leakage current (DCL), and rigorous test specifications to deliver higher performance and reliability than commercial tantalum capacitors and MLCCS.

     With a DCL value as low as 0.005CV and a high energy density compared to other capacitor technologies, the released capacitors provide more energy to ensure proper ignition. This makes them ideal for remote detonation systems with reliable discharge requirements in mining and blasting applications. The equipment's tantalum anode technology and the company's best-in-class dielectric structure ensure stable electrical performance in these harsh environments.

     To ensure reliability, this series of capacitors is tested to more stringent standards than standard commercial products. Each part is tested for 100% surge current using standard screening methods and two additional screenings for critical electrical characteristics to eliminate differences between batches. The capacitive element and lead frame of the device are encapsulated in a hard plastic resin, providing a powerful solution. Compared to MLCCS, they offer higher shock (100g) and vibration (20g) capabilities, according to MIL-STD-202.

     The series is available in housing sizes B (EIA 3528-21) and C (EIA 6032-28) with overvoltage ratings from 16V to 25V, capacitance ranges from 10µF to 100µF, and tolerance up to ±10%. The device has an ESR of 0.7-2.3 ohms at +25℃, A ripple current of 0.438A, and a high temperature operating temperature of +125℃. This family of devices features lead-free (Pb) terminals, rohs compliant, halogen-free and Vishay Green.
