TE offers TPA and glow-wire compliant models for EP2.5 connectors

     TE Connectivity is now available for the new compact Economy Power 2.5 (EP2.5) connector family with Terminal lock strips (TPA) and a glow-wire compliant model that complies with the IEC60335-1 (Home and Similar Appliances - Safety) standard. James Dunbar, Global Power and Signal Interconnect product Manager at TE's Home Appliances Business unit, said, "More and more customers are requiring connectors to provide TPA and meet the glowing wire test standards. By integrating these two functions, we will be better able to meet the requirements of our customers around the world."

     The EP2.5 is a new compact single-row crimp connector system with new plastic plugs, terminals, and connector sockets at 2.5mm pitch (0.098" pitch) for a very compact solution. The EP2.5 connector series is available in 2 to 20 digits, with new 180 degree vertical and 90 degree right Angle sockets.

     Other optimization features include: the newly designed TPA terminal lock insert - this part prevents the terminal from loosening in the environment of random vibration, and completely avoids the potential risk of the terminal not being locked in the correct position in the plastic case; The external lock on the plug plastic-case ensures a tight fit with the socket; Moreover, the design of the anti-stick platform on the plug and socket helps to avoid mismatching when fitting.

     EP2.5 series connectors are widely used, not only for household appliances such as kitchenware, refrigerators, dishwashers, but also for high voltage AC control and lamps. These products have low cost and good performance, and are suitable for any application that requires the transmission of power and signals to the board through electronic wires.

     The EP2.5 connector can integrate up to 20 electronic wires (from 20g to 26AWG in size) into a PCB board approximately 51 mm (2 inches) long. This ergonomic, round-edged connector can support rated power circuit applications testing at 4.5A current at 250VAC. EP2.5 connectors have been UL certified to operate in the temperature range -55 °C to 105 °C and are compatible with similar products on the market, enabling easy replacement. The plastic-case material is UL 94V-0 grade, and a variety of colors are available on request. The plug terminal material is tinned phosphor bronze. To help avoid friction corrosion and tin whisker formation, the terminals have been lubricated.
