Shielded and semi-shielded ferrite inductors provide lower DCR
Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. has expanded its series of shielded IFDC and semi-shielded IFSC wire-wrapped surface-mount ferrite inductors with three new devices in housing sizes of 2020DE, 3232DB and 5050HZ. Vishay Dale inductors combine higher inductance and current ratings with lower DCR for computer and consumer applications, providing higher performance at a lower cost than previous generation ferrite solutions.
The IFDC-5050HZ, IFSC-2020DE-01 and IFSC-3232DB-01 offer comparable performance to the previous generation of ferrite solutions, but with a 60 percent reduction in size and enhanced performance compared to similarly sized devices. These include higher operating temperatures to +125C and operating voltages of 120V. The IFSC-2020DE-01 and IFSC-3232DB-01 also feature a low DCR of 40%, while the IFDC-5050HZ supports higher saturation currents up to 14A.
While other high-performance inductors typically offer a maximum inductance of 100µH, these devices achieve higher values of 470µH on the IFSC-2020DE-01 and IFSC-3232DB-01, and 1mH on the IFDC-5050 Hz. In addition, using efficient manufacturing techniques and a simple bobbin wire-wound structure, inductors offer a more cost-effective solution than IHLP inductor technology, while still providing high quality and reliability.
Due to its low-loss ferrite core structure and low DCR for increased efficiency, the device is ideal for energy storage inductors in a variety of DC-DC conversion topologies in consumer electronics and battery-powered devices. In addition, the IFSC and IFDC families provide a cost-effective solution for noise suppression on power lines in differential LC filter topologies. Key markets include consumer entertainment devices such as televisions, speakers, audio and gaming systems; General-purpose computing devices, such as desktops, monitors and scanners; And other household appliances. In these applications, the IFDC-5050HZ - a coil enclosed in an external magnetic material containing stray flux - minimizes EMI and crosstalk to nearby components.
