STMicroelectronics introduces new BlueNRG-MS Bluetooth 4.1 network processor
STMicroelectronics announces the latest iteration of its award-winning BlueNRG Bluetooth SMART network processor. The new processor supports the latest Bluetooth 4.1 specification and introduces a 1.7V operating mode to extend the life of battery-powered products.
The new BlueNRG-MS network processor integrates a fully functional Bluetooth PHY and 2.4GHz RF circuit, as well as a dedicated security coprocessor for the ARM® Cortex-M0 microcontroller and AES-128 encryption algorithm that conforms to the Bluetooth 4.1 protocol stack. In addition, the new product integrates API, power management and flash memory, and directly connects to the application host controller via a simple SPI bus, taking advantage of the clear software division between the network processor and the host microcontroller.
The new Bluetooth 4.1 specification further improves energy efficiency by supporting dual-mode topological modes for master and slave devices in operation. New low-duty Cycle and Directed Advertising features minimize power consumption when connected to unknown devices. In addition, the Bluetooth 4.1 specification also introduces the Logical Link Control and Adaptation Protocol (L2CAP), which uses multi-channel communication services and quality of service control for target applications, bringing more flexible data transmission/exchange functions.
St's BlueNRG-MS network processor can be used in smart hub related devices, such as collecting sensor detection data, which is then automatically forwarded to a smartphone. With this processor, a super-sensor network with infinite communication distances can be controlled with a single smartphone. In addition, the Bluetooth 4.1 specification adds Internet connectivity capabilities, and BlueNRG-MS supports this latest market trend, helping developers focus on the huge business opportunities that exist in the future iot market.
