STMicroelectronics introduces micro motor drive module

     STMicroelectronics expands the SLLIMM(Low Loss Intelligent Micro Die Block) product line with the introduction of two new micro motor drive modules that improve the energy efficiency level of home appliances.

     ENERGY efficiency marks and energy efficiency rating marks, such as the ENERGY STAR mark and the energy efficiency rating mark for electrical goods, are mandatory industry standards in some countries and regions to help consumers identify energy efficient products at every price range. Smart motor controllers are the key to reducing energy consumption while also delivering additional product value, for example by adding new features and reducing operating noise to electrical equipment such as dishwashers, refrigerators, air conditioners and fans.

     ST's new SLLIMM Micro series expands SLIMM's portfolio of smart power modules that connect directly to the central microcontroller and the device motor. While traditional motor drivers typically require more than 30 discrete components, ST's solution simplifies design and significantly reduces component count while saving board space, improving product operational reliability, and reducing electromagnetic interference (EMI). In addition, this module is suitable for small devices with a built-in motor where space is limited.

     Two new products: STGIPN3H60 and STGIPN3H60A. Both products are available in a 26-pin 29.15 x 12.45mm package, making them the smallest of ST's motor drive modules to date. Each module has a complete three-phase half-bridge, including a high voltage gate driver and IGBT power switch, as well as a continuous current diode and a boot-up diode. During the start of the drive module, the bootstrap diode supplies power to the high voltage circuit at the end of the motor. The drive module integrates the bootstrap diode to save more peripheral components, and the integration of the bootstrap diode adopts ST's unique patented technology.

     STGIPN3H60A has the basic motor drive function, suitable for price sensitive electrical equipment; The STGIPN3H60 has even more features, including an unrestricted general-purpose operational amplifier that engineers can use in a closed-circuit vector control (FOC) system to feed motor current detected by sensors back to a microcontroller. In addition, the product has a voltage comparator for overheat and overcurrent shutdown protection. The STGIPN3H60 also offers a smart shutdown function, which can generate a simple failure indication signal or safely shut down the drive within 200ns in case of an emergency.
