STMicroelectronics introduces high-speed Active Protocol bidirectional Converter

     STMicroelectronics introduces Mystique series DisplayPort and HDMI interface converter chips. The series is the world's first high-speed active protocol bidirectional converter for managing audio and video signals between DisplayPort and HDMI, the two most commonly used display interfaces in computers and consumer electronics.

     Mystique is the most advanced audio/video converter system chip in the market. Its unique bi-directional conversion features of HDMI 1.4 and DisplayPort 1.2 ensure seamless connection between various consumer electronics, commercial computers, and commercial multimedia devices. This includes Blu-ray DVD players, game consoles, docking stations, laptops, tablets, digital billboards and Thunderbolt devices. In addition, ST's industry-unique converter enables a richer multimedia entertainment experience, supporting the new 4Kx2K ultra-high resolution display (4096x2160p is four times the full HD display) and 7.1-channel surround sound.

     Mystique converter can send and receive DisplayPort 1.2 High Bit Rate 2 data with a transmission rate of 5.4Gpbs per channel. Therefore, only two pairs of data cables are needed to drive a 120Hz full HD digital TV. This benefit helps product design minimize cable and component costs as well as signal line routing space on the board. Oems can develop HDMI - and DisplayPort-enabled external connectors and docking stations for connecting business computers, mobile devices, and home appliances, extending connectivity solutions to existing and new products.

     Mystique is based on ST's advanced DisplayPort technology. This display technology has the highest compatibility and is the reference standard for all major graphics card and test equipment manufacturers. The DisplayPort 1.2 standard enables data bandwidth of up to 21.6 Gbps, allowing multiple video streams to be delivered to multiple daisy-chain-connected monitors and display walls using a single cable. In the mobile product market, this series of products has a strong anti-RF interference performance. In-Stat, a market research firm, predicts that external DisplayPort interface shipments will reach 400 million units by 2014.
