STMicroelectronics announces world's smallest motor driver

     In response to the growing popularity of portable electronic technology in daily life, STMicroelectronics, the world's leading semiconductor supplier across multiple electronic applications, has launched a new series of low-power micro motor drivers to make sophisticated, advanced battery-powered devices smaller, more portable and more durable.

     Motor is the core component of portable medical injection pumps and drives, personal fitness equipment, portable POS machines, mini robots, security monitoring equipment, precision power tools, portable printers and other electronic equipment, motor control requires a lot of practical research and development knowledge and skills related to electronic engineering. Integrating logic units and power devices on a single chip while meeting design size and power budget requirements is one of the biggest challenges for product designers.

     Now ST's new family of micro monolithic motor drivers integrates all of these features to meet the technical requirements of the most stringent portable and wearable devices. Low power consumption, small size and high performance, ST's new motor drivers will facilitate the widespread application of battery-powered iot hardware.

     Measuring just 3mm x 3mm, ST's new product is the world's smallest single-chip motor driver and integrates all the features product designers need to deliver innovative products that are compact, lightweight and easy to use for their target market.

     The new drive saves battery power, operates at only 1.8V, supports power-saving design, and has the lowest standby current in the industry, less than 80nA, meeting the requirements of zero power state when the motor is not working. In addition, the drive can provide 1.3Arms drive current, so it can be designed for a variety of applications, including robotic positioning systems, printer motors, camera autofocus mechanisms, toothbrush motors, or injection pumps.
