     ST has announced a new USB Type-C and power transfer interface chip solution. At present, computers, mobile phones, tablets, TV sets, set-top boxes, game consoles, various consumer electronics products, industrial control equipment and Internet of Things devices can be seen everywhere in the office and home, but different types of chargers, power cables, data lines intertwined, often make the office and living room seem very messy, and ST's interface chip helps to solve this problem.

     The USB Type-C interface and the new Power Delivery standard modified the USB subsystem from a limited power supply data interface to a major power supply interface, as well as a market-tested and widely used data interface. USB Type-C interface provides positive and negative plug function, two-way power transmission, data transmission rate of up to 10Gbps, the maximum transmission power of 100W, is the ideal choice for integrating a large number of cables.

     The STUSB16 interface chip adopts ST's 20V manufacturing process and integrates protection functions such as short circuit, overvoltage, and overcurrent without the need to add external circuits. In addition, it provides plug Power support (VCONN) up to 600mA of current setpoint, in accordance with USB Power Delivery specifications. Integrated biphase Mark Coded (BMC, Bi-Phase Mark Coded) Physical Layer (PHY, Physical Layer) coding and decoding logic circuit.

     Andrea Onetti, Vice President of ST's business Division and General manager of Mass Production MEMS Products, said: "Aware of the dilemma of being surrounded by countless cables with very limited interaction capabilities between devices, as a member of the USB-IF Association and an active participant in the USB Developer Forum, ST is actively building a strong and flexible portfolio of USB Type-C and power transmission solutions. These include STM32 microcontrollers, ESD protection devices, and power management products. The new STUSB16 family includes more advanced circuit protection and customizable non-volatile memory, enabling the chip to be configured on charge without software support. "St's portfolio provides equipment manufacturers with a low component cost (BOM) and flexible design for hardware and software solutions that meet the needs and customization of every power category."

     By adding the STUSB16 companion chip to existing microcontroller-based designs, ST enables device manufacturers to upgrade to the USB Type-C interface while significantly reducing the application's microcontroller-related resource requirements compared to other solutions. Together, these technical features simplify software development, reduce time to market, and allow customers to focus on developing differentiated products with added value.
