Renesas Mobile promotes LTE Cat-4 certification

     Renesas Mobile Corporation, a subsidiary of Renesas Electronics, a provider of advanced wireless communications semiconductor solutions and platforms, will show you: With its "smarter by design" architecture, how its world-leading SP2531 LTE triple mode modem expands performance to nearly 150Mbps in downloads to deliver LTE CAT-4 performance. The show, co-hosted with Ericsson, a leading provider of communications infrastructure architecture, will take place at the 2012 Mobile World Congress at Fira Montjuic in Barcelona, Spain, from 27 February to 1 March 2012, and will showcase its first products using real-time network infrastructure.

     The evolution of mobile phone standards has never stopped, and there are now more performance requirements that need to be released from the 3GPP standard, from EDGE to HSPA, HSPA+, LTE and LTE-A. Renesas Mobile has the most experienced modem team in the world and is at the forefront of modem engineering, especially in the receiver area. The presentation will highlight how Renesas Mobile has been able to greatly expand its performance by making software changes in its smart demodulator architecture. The same philosophy extends to the Renesas mobile platform, which benefits from a high degree of configurability, upgradability and optimality.

     The system-on-chip demodulator is optimized to provide optimal performance and efficiency based on throughput requirements, and Cat-3 is provided synchronously with the memory and programmable hardware in the SP2531. Renesas Mobile's intelligent design allows its performance and efficiency to increase by one point, namely the Cat-3 chip can provide the download throughput of Cat-4. Based on the tremendous performance advantages demonstrated by Renesas mobile demodulators, devices using these chip sets enable users to achieve the highest speeds for applications such as browsing and downloading, while mobile phone operators will benefit from improved performance and can provide their users with attractive new applications.

     Ericsson and the Renesas mobile demodulator team (from Nokia) have worked well together over the past decade. During this time, the two companies have worked closely to expand their possibilities for advanced technology implementation by adopting collaborative Interoperability Testing (IODT) sessions. These meetings are critical to the advancement of new technologies because new features can be tested and validated before they are commercially available and in their prime. For example, Renesas Mobile and Ericsson have partnered to become the industry leaders in valizing a number of U.S. brands, including AWS Frequency 4 and 700 MHz band 17.
