Renesas Electronics began to promote the RL78/I1A DC/DC LED control evaluation board in China
Renesas Electronics Corporation announced that it has begun marketing its new DC/DC LED Control evaluation board based on the RL78/I1A microcontroller (MCU) in China. The RL78/I1A MCU family of five dedicated standard products (ASSPs) for lighting applications. The RL78/I1A DC/DC LED Control Evaluation Board allows system designers to feel the benefits of McU-based solutions for LED driver development. They can also learn about LED constant current control and various dimming methods using RL78/I1A MCUS dedicated to lighting.
An important feature of the evaluation board is the new version of a comprehensive and easy-to-use software GUI tool - Applilet EZ for HCD. The HCD oriented Applilet EZ enables easy graphical configuration of LED lighting systems while also generating pre-compiled C code for RL78/I1A MCUS. It allows system designers to program target devices using only a single USB cable. Using the HCD oriented Applilet EZ software tool, they were able to generate a communication protocol stack for DALI and DMX512 in seconds. Applilet EZ for HCD can be downloaded from the website.
The evaluation board is based on a 38-pin R5F107DE device with 64KB Flash memory. It realizes an efficient circuit with a 16-bit PWM timer operating at 64MHz and demonstrates a programmable 3-channel LED with a step-down converter topology for constant 350mA current control, which can further improve the average resolution (below 1 nm) when set to jitter. The board also incorporates a number of dedicated analog peripherals on the chip, such as programmable gain amplifiers and comparators. The device's unique internal architecture reduces code size and frees up CPU space to execute additional instructions in the background.
The evaluation board supports four dimming interfaces, demonstrating the flexibility of the solution. They include DALI, DMX512, IR remote control, and analog volume.
With the CubeSuite+ debugger, the RL78/I1A DC/DC LED Control evaluation Board can support on-board debugging via a USB interface, eliminating the need for additional hardware. It implements Flash programming and supports standard debugging features such as code execution, single stepping, software breakpoints, and memory operations. In addition, the evaluation board supports debugging with E1 emulator. The full CubeSuite+ integrated development environment can also be downloaded from the Renesas Electronics website.
