Renesas Electronic in-car Entertainment Systems brings 3D graphical dashboards to the entry level

     Renesas Electronics has announced that its high-performance in-car infotainment system SoCR-CarD3 will support 3D graphics displays on the dashboard of 3D graphics instruments in entry-level models. R-CarD3 can significantly reduce overall system development costs while achieving high-performance 3D graphics display. The new SoC includes a high-performance 3D graphics processing core that enables high-quality 3D graphics display at the same cost as the BOM cost of developing a 2D dashboard.

     System developers using the R-Car D3 can reuse R-CarH3 or R-CarM33D graphics development resources (including software and graphic design) originally used for high-end models when developing entry-level models. This scalability enables users to develop easy-to-use, high-definition 3D dashboards for entry-level vehicles at the same cost as current 2D dashboards.

     In addition, Renesas Electronics works with leading instrument panel industry partners to further shorten the R&D process and reduce R&D costs. As a result, there is an increasing need for greater clarity from a security perspective. In recent years, the 7-10-inch LCD displays featured in entry-level cars mainly support 2D graphics. But in the future, as LCD screens in cars grow in size, improve in resolution and fall in price, there is no doubt that there will be an explosion of 3D dashboards that can support clear, easy-to-read images on large screens, and this demand is particularly strong in the Chinese market.
