Qualcomm introduces the Qualcomm Snapdragon 618 Connected camera reference design and development platform
Qualcomm announced that its subsidiary Qualcomm Technologies has launched the Qualcomm Snapdragon 618 Connected Camera Reference design and development platform. The new camera platform incorporates Qualcomm Technologies' leading processing, connectivity, imaging and analytics technologies to enable more powerful, intelligent and professional security cameras. The Snapdragon 618 platform includes a reference design and connected camera software development kit (SDK) that supports 4K HEVC video, full connectivity and video analytics heterogeneous computing.
Raj Talluri, senior vice president of Product Management at Qualcomm Technologies Inc., said, "Qualcomm Technologies continues to add significant value to the iot ecosystem and is seeing significant momentum for adoption of our platform across multiple vertical market segments. We are leveraging our extensive product portfolio to build customized platforms for key market segments in the Internet of Things, and connected cameras are one of the areas that can benefit from industry-leading connectivity technology and processing solutions."
Qualcomm Snapdragon 618 network camera platform integrates powerful 64-bit six-core CPU, next-generation GPU, embedded DSP and advanced video analysis capabilities to promote the development of smart cameras to "cameras with autonomous awareness"; Not only can it transmit 4K HEVC, but it also enables video analysis of camera footage, such as target detection, face detection and recognition, multi-target tracking, and Qualcomm Zeroth target classification. With intelligent recognition from cameras, customers can move away from high-priced, server-based cloud video analytics to more reliable, camera-based analytics. The new Qualcomm camera platform is designed to help customers using cloud security services reduce network bandwidth requirements and cloud storage costs by simply transferring the relevant data when a specific event occurs.
Anthony Murray, senior vice president and general manager of the Internet of Everything at Qualcomm Technologies, said: "Transferring video analytics processing power from the server to the camera during filming will open a new chapter in big data applications. "Qualcomm's Snapdragon processors already provide 4K ultra HD video for more than 500 smartphone designs, so it's only natural for us to bring the same technology leadership to connected cameras."
