Power Integrations introduces the HiperPFS-4 power factor correction IC

     The industry leader in high-voltage integrated circuits dedicated to energy-efficient power conversion introduces the HiperPFSTM-4 series of power factor correction (PFC) ics. The new device family is suitable for applications that require superior efficiency and power factor performance at both full and light loads. The HiperPFS-4 device comes in a compact, electrically isolated, heat-dissipating package that integrates both a 600 V MOSFET for 305 VAC input and a high efficiency variable frequency CCM PFC controller. The IC family not only delivers high power factor and low THD, but also consistently achieves high efficiency over a very wide range of output loads, enabling Oems to meet the stringent 80 PLUS Platinum and Titanium class power supply standards.

     The HiperPFS-4 IC achieves high power factor above 0.95 and low THD even at 20% rated load. The new devices also meet the stringent lightning strike requirements of major computer and entertainment equipment providers, such as the 1-second 410 VAC input test, which is designed to ensure that the product can be reliable and withstand voltage surges and lightning strikes.

     The new HiperPFS-4 IC is suitable for closed design up to 300 W, open power supply up to 400 W, and high voltage input applications up to 550 W. Specific protection features include undervoltage lock (UVLO) protection, undervoltage (UV) protection, overvoltage (OV) protection, overtemperature protection (OTP), voltage slow rise/drop protection, cycle term current, and power limit protection. The HiperPFS-4 IC consumes less than 60 mW at 230 VAC and still maintains output voltage regulation under no-load and less than 20 mW in sleep mode.

HiperPFS-4 uses a unique frequency sliding control technology that enables power supply designs to provide extremely high efficiency at very light loads, an advantage that is important for meeting the EU CoC standard that requires efficiency at 10% load. The IC family integrates a 600 V power MOSFET with advanced protection features, making it ideal for countries or regions with severe input voltage fluctuations. The HiperPFS-4 device has a good 305 VAC input safety margin to ensure safe PFC operation and is particularly suitable for data center and commercial LED lighting. Other applications include refrigerators (which will include high PFC performance requirements), cordless tool chargers, and electric bicycle battery chargers."
