Pickering introduces new high voltage reed relays and showcases them at the China International Automotive Test Expo

     Pickering Electronics, a leading manufacturer of high-performance reed relays, will showcase its comprehensive line of high-voltage (HV) reed relays at the China International Automotive Test Expo 2024. Includes the 5kV version of the new surface-mount Series 219 reed relays and the single-in-line Series 104 reed relays. The show will be held in Hall 1 of the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition Center from August 28 to 30, 2024, with Pickering Electronics' booth number 11023.

     Held annually in Shanghai, China, Detroit, USA, and Stuttgart, Germany, the International Automotive Test Expo is the world's leading international trade show for testing, development and validation of the automotive industry. Covering all stages from prototype to production, the exhibition covers technical areas such as advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) and autonomous driving (AV) testing, electric and hybrid drivetrain testing, battery life testing, electromagnetic interference (EMI) and noise and vibration roughness (NVH) testing and analysis. And a full suite of test and validation technologies for vehicle, component and system development.

     More than 300 exhibitors will showcase the latest products, services and technologies, including measurement tools, test benches, simulation packages, durability testing, crash testing, dynamometers, emission measurement systems and dynamic assessment tools, as well as test sites and test facilities.

     'Pickering Electronics' broad range of high-performance reed relays for high-voltage applications are capable of withstanding insulation voltages from 1.5kV to 15kV and switching voltages from 500V to 12.5kV at up to 200W of power,' says Rob King, Product Development Manager. "To meet the widest range of application needs, these relays are available in A variety of Form sizes and contact configurations (including 1 Form A, 2 Form A, 1 Form B, and 1 Form C), and support PCB pin-mount, chassis mount, or PCB mount, or use fly wire connections for high voltage applications.

     Pickering Electronics' Series 219 HV SMD (Surface Mount Equipment) reed relays are ideal for test work at electric vehicle charging stations. This relay is capable of easily switching voltages up to 1kV and is the only surface-mount high voltage relay available in 2 Form A and 1 Form B packages on the market today. All contact configurations are available with 3V, 5V or 12V coil voltage options, and switching insulation voltage is up to 3kV for the 1 Form A package, 2kV for the 1 Form B package, and 1.5kV for the 2 Form A package.

     In addition, the company's latest HV Series 104 family member is the first miniature single-in-line (SIL/SIP) reed relay with insulation voltages up to 5kV and switching voltages up to 1.5kV. This relay is particularly suitable for applications that require a compact design, as the stack height of these devices is only 6.35mm. Despite its compact size, this relay maintains reliable performance, ensuring the effectiveness and safety of high-voltage switching or control operations.

     At the show, Pickering will also be showcasing other reed relays in its high voltage product range, including the Series 67 and 68 families. These relays have a skeletonless coil design, making the overall size smaller than the average relay, only 58.4 x 12.6 x 14.5 mm. The Series 67 relay offers PCB connections for switches and coils and offers the highest power switching capability in the Pickering high voltage relay portfolio - up to 200W. Series 68 relays provide PCB connections on the coil side and fly wire connections on the switch side, which isolates the high-voltage circuit from the PCB. An optional electrostatic shield is located between the switch and the coil, helping to minimize interference between the coil drive and the high-voltage circuit. In addition, Pickering's Series 131 mini Single-in-line (mini SIL) high-voltage reed relay is the smallest high-voltage relay in the industry today.
