OmniVision introduces the high-performance 13-megapixel PureCel image sensor

     OmniVision Technologies announced the introduction of the OV13853, a high-performance 13-megapixel PureCel image sensor that delivers Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) quality images and functionality to mainstream mobile devices. Leveraging OmniVision's proven 1.12 micron pixel technology, the OV13853 delivers best-in-class, high-quality low-light performance while supporting advanced features such as phase detection autofocus (PDAF).

     "The mobile device ecosystem has improved dramatically, and we believe that DSLR features such as phase detection autofocus now have greater potential applications even for the mainstream smartphone industry." With this in mind, we are today announcing the first 13-megapixel sensor with special phase detection pixels to support phase detection autofocus for the industry, "said Badri Padmanabhan, Product marketing Manager at OmniVision. "The OV13853 supports phase detection autofocus and is a fully compatible upgrade from our previous 13-megapixel sensor. The OV13853 can therefore be easily integrated into mainstream smartphone designs, greatly reducing production lead times."

     The 1/3.06-inch OV13853 supports a 4224 x 3136 pixel (13.2 megapixel) active array operating at zero shutter lag and 30 frames per second (FPS), enabling a seamless transition between recorded video and still images. The sensor supports 4K2K Ultra HD video with full horizontal Field of view (FOV) and electronic image stabilization (EIS) at 30 FPS. OV13853 also supports EIS high frame rate 1080p HD video recording at 60 FPS, which can achieve high image quality video recording.
