OmniVision Technologies, an industry-leading developer of digital image solutions, has announced the OV16B10, a high-performance, low-power and high-resolution image sensor designed for the next generation of flagship smartphones. Based on OmniVision's second generation 1.12 micron PureCel Plus-S technology, the OV16B10 sensor features high full well capacity, highly sensitive imaging, and phase detection autofocus (PDAF) to deliver industry-leading performance for single - or dual-camera camera applications in high-end mobile devices.

Based on OmniVision's second generation 1.12 micron PureCel Plus-S technology, the OV16B10 sensor features high full well capacity, highly sensitive imaging, and phase detection autofocus (PDAF) to deliver industry-leading performance for single - or dual-camera camera applications in high-end mobile devices.

     Designed for the main camera of flagship smartphones, the OV16B10 offers an attractive upgrade option for phones in today's mainstream 13 megapixel category. The OV16B10 features advanced features such as PDAF and Zigzag High Dynamic Range (zHDR) to help consumers achieve professional-grade image quality typically found in DSLRS.

     PDAF is faster and more accurate than traditional contrast detection autofocus methods, making it a popular autofocus choice for high-end smartphones. The OV16B10 uses a new PDAF architecture with better sensitivity compared to the previous generation of PDAF technology, allowing the OV16B10 to have more accurate autofocus in low light conditions.

     By using long and short exposures in a single frame, the OV16B10's zHDR technology expands the sensor's dynamic range capabilities. When compared with traditional frame-based HDR techniques, zHDR increases dynamic range and eliminates possible ghosting problems in the former. In HDR mode, instant preview and video recording are possible, and in camera mode, single-frame full-resolution HDR images are possible with no shutter delay.

     The OV16B10 has a built-in feature that allows frame synchronization and supports scene switching when used in a dual camera configuration, achieving image fusion while simplifying the camera system architecture. In addition, the OV16B10 is equipped with a gyro interface that reads motion data from an external gyroscope, enabling precise stability for video and still image capture.
