Nio and NXP cooperate on 4D imaging radar

     NXP Semiconductor announced that Nio, the global leading brand for premium intelligent electric vehicles, will employ NXP's leading automotive radar technology, including its breakthrough imaging radar solution. NXP's new 4D imaging radar solution offers a powerful technological advantage over traditional radar that will help vehicles significantly improve front-facing radar performance, enabling them to identify and classify other vehicles, vulnerable road users or objects on highways, in complex urban Settings, and at distances up to 300 meters. For car users to bring higher road safety and driving comfort.

     Today, automakers are increasingly focusing on introducing safety and convenience features into their vehicles to take autonomous driving services to the next level. NXP's imaging radar technology expands the capabilities of radar from measuring range and speed to include detecting direction, Angle of arrival, and horizontal altitude. High-resolution point clouds enhance environment mapping and scene understanding, enabling detection and classification of objects beyond the line of sight of the human eye while measuring their speed, almost regardless of weather or light conditions. The technology, which allows cars to "see" a motorbike approaching a large delivery truck or a child stepping between parked cars, is key to improving road safety and protecting lives.

     NXP's imaging radar solutions are ideal for advanced, high-performance front-facing radar applications. They are part of NXP's radar portfolio offering seamless performance scalability and reuse of software and hardware designs across radar platforms. The radar processor and transceiver chipset are combined to provide efficient radar processing through high-performance RF technology, enabling L2+ level and higher autonomous driving services.
