New switching IC series with multiple independent regulating outputs

     Power Integrations announced the InnoMux-2 series of single-stage, independently regulated multi-output offline power ics. Typical applications include TVS, monitors, appliances, networking, home and building automation, LED emergency lighting, and industrial power supplies.

     Ic integrates AC/DC and downstream DC-DC conversion stages into a single chip, providing up to three independently regulated outputs for use in white goods, industrial systems, displays and other applications that require multiple voltages. Eliminating separate DC-DC stages can reduce the number of components, reduce PCB footprint, and increase efficiency by up to 10 percentage points compared to traditional two-stage architectures. Efficiency is aided by the ic's 750V PowiGaN GaN transistor, zero voltage switch (no active clamp) and synchronous rectification.

     "Most modern electronic systems rely on multiple internal voltages to run various functions such as computing, communication, and drive functions - usually heat, light, sound, or some kind of motion," said Roland St. Pierre, vice president of product development at Power Integrations. But the losses at each conversion stage are compounded, which reduces system performance and generates heat. "The InnoMux-2 IC overcomes this challenge by providing up to three independent regulated outputs or two voltage outputs and a single-stage constant current output, enabling a compact, efficient power subsystem with a few components."

     The IC offers up to 90W of output power with better than ±3% accurate regulation across the input line, load, temperature and differential current step conditions. The total efficiency of the power system (AC to low voltage DC section) is more than 90%; The advanced InnoMux-2 controller also manages light load power supply, avoiding the need for preload resistance and reducing no-load power consumption to less than 30mW. In applications where the standby use limit of 300mW is set by the European EuP regulation, this saves power for essential functions.

     The device utilizes the company's thermal efficiency InSOP24 and InSOP28 packages with PCB cooling, so a radiator is not required. Device options include dual-output and triple-output CV; Optionally, an output can be dedicated to a CC driver, suitable for powering leds in the display or for high-speed charging of internal batteries.
