New series with integrated single switch and half bridge with integrated driver

     Many trends are taking a central place in consumer electronics and industrial applications, such as portability, electrification and weight reduction. All of this requires a compact and efficient design. They also go hand in hand with non-traditional PCB designs that have tight space constraints that limit the use of external components.

     Infineon Technologies has expanded its GaN portfolio with the CoolGaN Drive product family to address these challenges. It includes the CoolGaN Drive 700V G5 single switch, which integrates a transistor and gate driver in the PQFN 5x6 and PQFN 6x8 packages, and the CoolGaN Drive HB 600V G5 device. Two transistors and integrated high-side and low-side gate drivers are integrated in the LGA 6x8 package. The new product family increases efficiency, reduces system size, and saves overall costs.

     Based on the recently released CoolGaN transistor 650V G5, the family offers a wide range of single-switch and half-bridge integrated drivers. Depending on the product group, these components feature a bootstrap diode that features lossless current measurement and an adjustable dV/dt switch. They also provide OCP/OTP/SCP protection. As a result, the device allows for higher switching frequencies, leading to smaller, more efficient solutions for high power density systems. At the same time, reduce BoM. This not only reduces the system weight, but also reduces the carbon footprint.

     The unit is suitable for long-distance electric bicycles, portable power tools and lightweight household appliances such as vacuum cleaners, fans and hair dryers. Samples of half bridge solutions are now available.
