NXP releases S32 CoreRide Open platform to break integration barriers in software-defined automotive development
NXP Semiconductors announced the S32 CoreRide platform, which aims to break through integration barriers in the development of a new generation of software-defined vehicles (SDVS). This new automotive software platform significantly simplifies the complexity of automotive architecture development, helping automakers and Tier 1 suppliers reduce costs.
The S32 CoreRide platform not only brings together NXP's proven S32 compute, networking, and system power management technologies, but also integrates ready-to-deploy software from NXP's extensive software ecosystem partners. At the same time, NXP also introduced the first S32 CoreRide central computing solution based on the ultra-integrated processor of the new S32N series vehicles. The solution provides secure, scalable, real-time application processing capabilities while integrating vehicle networking capabilities.
The rise of software-defined cars has opened up a promising but also challenging path for the automotive industry. With the increasing demand for functional upgrades and new revenue streams in fleet management, it is imperative to create a new software-defined approach. In the modern automotive architecture development process, the proliferation of hardware-defined variants across different models makes maintenance a huge challenge.
S32 CoreRide Platform: Integration and integration
The introduction of the NXP S32 CoreRide platform marks an important milestone in overcoming software and hardware integration challenges and will drive rapid adoption of software-defined vehicles. Due to software and architecture inconsistencies, automakers have struggled to move functionality from traditional multi-ECU architectures to regional or centralized processing architectures. This new platform integrates NXP's broad hardware portfolio with a global ecosystem of leading automotive software providers, These include Accenture ESR Labs, EsmTech, Blackberry QNX, Elektrobit, ETAS, Green Hills Software, Sonatus, Synopsys, TTTech Auto, and Vector Software from a number of Tier 1 suppliers such as Informatik GmbH, Wind River, and Valeo.
With the scalable S32 computing technology in the S32 CoreRide platform, automakers can integrate ECUs to develop flexible architectures that can be used across different classes and models, from specific functional domains to regions to centralization. The platform isolates different automotive functions, helps ensure that applications do not interfere with each other, and dynamically reallocations resources to ensure that applications do not degrade over time. The high level of integration and flexibility of the S32 CoreRide platform enables automotive manufacturers and tier 1 suppliers to take their development to the next level. Now they can focus more on building differentiated products and focus on developing applications for new business models.

The first S32 CoreRide central computing solution based on the S32N family
NXP also introduced the first centralized computing solution for the S32 CoreRide platform: based on the new S32N family of ultra-integrated automotive processors, and incorporating advanced automotive networking, system power management technology, and pre-integrated software from S32 CoreRide eco-partners. Thanks to the S32N Series' gauge level hardware isolation capabilities, the central computing solution enables automakers to safely and easily integrate multiple cross-vehicle functions in an isolated execution environment.
The scalable S32N series processors are designed for ultra-high automotive functional safety and offer a variety of real-time and application processing cores in combination to meet the central computing needs of automotive manufacturers. All S32N series chips integrate advanced hardware security engines, multi-port TSN Ethernet switches and CAN hubs, and some also support Ethernet packet acceleration, artificial intelligence/machine learning (AI/ML) acceleration, and cost-effective intercompute node PCI Express services.
The S32 CoreRide central computing solution is optimized to meet a wide range of network bandwidth, power delivery requirements and comply with the ISO 26262 ASIL D functional safety standard. By providing automotive data intelligence, the solution simplifies the deployment of enhancements and new services and delivers sustained profitability throughout the vehicle's life cycle, leveraging the many benefits of software-defined vehicles.
