Molex announces Transcend Interconnect LED lighting system
Molex Corporation announced that it has become the technology integrator for Cisco Solutions for connected commercial LED lighting. Working closely with Cisco and various luminaires manufacturer partners, Molex has developed Transcend Interconnect lighting systems to accelerate the deployment of smart LED lighting controls through highly secure network architectures in commercial buildings, educational institutions, medical facilities, and manufacturing and warehousing facilities.
Mike Picini, vice president of Solid State Lighting at Molex, said: "With the deployment of the new LED solution, architects, lighting designers, building developers and owners will be able to achieve extreme energy efficiency, lighting control and personal productivity through a proven and integrated approach. Replacing fluorescent lighting with leds only saves energy, while controlled LED lighting systems can cut energy costs by half or more. In addition, controlled and adaptive lighting systems can help create a more comfortable environment for people to work, study, and treat more efficiently, and further improve lighting density, attention span, individual behavior, and overall efficiency."
Molex's Transcend Interconnect lighting system is an intelligent low-voltage network that powers and provides control for LED lighting and other equipment. In addition, a range of applications for smart building convergence via IP can be provided. This type of application sends multi-sensor data to the central host, providing real-time energy consumption, lighting status, temperature and humidity control, air quality monitoring and other building analysis functions and applications.
Transcend solutions are built on top of state-of-the-art technology and are based on proven standard PoE applications such as data and VoIP. Transcend control systems are open, scalable and support the IEEE802.3x standard. This low-voltage centralized PoE infrastructure provides unmatched performance and outstanding control capabilities for a fully interconnected, highly reliable and secure system. The installation, programming, integration, maintenance and upgrade process of PoE infrastructure is extremely simple, and can save a lot of costs compared to traditional lighting systems.
Molex's collaboration with Cisco simplifies the integration of Transcend interconnect lighting with building automation systems over IP without any impact on lighting reliability, safety, efficiency, maintenance and system life. Todd Meister, vice president of the Americas Partnership Organization at Cisco, said: "Today's innovations in the LED space are leading huge market changes. By using the network to power lighting and add sensors, partners like Cisco and Molex are pushing the Internet of Things into the enterprise. "Network-based lighting makes it easy to connect to different building networks and uses the available data to provide a truly personalized user experience."
Transcend Interconnect lighting systems use a system-wide architecture that enables connectivity from Cisco network switches to lighting devices. By utilizing the standard IP structured cabling commonly used in data networks, you can take advantage of a wide range of products from a number of top well-known lighting suppliers.
Molex's Transcend LED lighting solution includes the forthcoming Transcend lighting equipment, Transcend Gateway, Transcend sensor nodes, Transcend local control, the new Zhaga module, And new and innovative Transcend control software specific to lighting. These products help create a unique end-to-end indoor lighting control system solution for all workspace applications including meeting rooms, classrooms, restrooms, collaboration areas, lobbies, and more.
Digitalisation is transformative, says Picini. "Collaborative LED lighting solutions can not only improve the energy efficiency of buildings and reduce energy intensity." "He said. "It also has the potential to create unique lighting scenes and experiences that have a positive impact on people's lives."
