Microsemi introduces a system management design tool for communication

     Microsemi Corporation introduces a set of system and power management design tools for high-availability wired and wireless communications infrastructure devices. New design tools include the Mixed Signal Power Manager (MPM) 4.0 reference design, which supports up to 64 power rails and mixed analog and digital point-of-loads (POL), as well as PMBus -based communication. The company also offers a suite of evaluation tools for Microsemi SmartFusion customizable system-on-chip solution (cSoC) solutions, enabling rapid evaluation of product functionality.

     Esam Elashmawi, corporate vice president and general manager of Microsemi, said: "Our new power management solution significantly reduces the cost and complexity of board-level power management designs by integrating the system management functions required for communications infrastructure applications. The communications market increasingly values the inherent security and reliability of our technology portfolio, and using our products brings additional value to devices while protecting our customers' brands."

     Microsemi's comprehensive MPM 4.0 power management solution includes a graphical user interface that simplifies the visualization of power sequencing and margining in complex high-availability systems. In addition, the solution supports fine-tuning, event logging, and alarm capabilities. MPM 4.0 also includes a reference design that includes all source files and firmware, allowing customers to customize the product and support multiple power rails.

     Microsemi also offers a suite of evaluation tools to accelerate initial design testing and experimentation, including its SmartFusion cSoC devices with single-event flip (SEU) immunity and available in a variety of packages in standard or military temperature ranges. SmartFusion integrates FPgas, an ARM Cortex-M3 processor, and programmable analog resources in a single device. The package also includes Microsemi's NX9415 3.3V and LX9610 1.5V regulators.
