Microchip Technology has announced three flexible and scalable reference designs for electric vehicle chargers

The reliability and performance of EV chargers are critical to drive global market adoption. EV manufacturers are focused on providing the most robust, weather-resistant and user-friendly EV chargers. To accelerate the time to market of an EV charger, Microchip Technology announced three flexible and scalable EV Charger Reference Designs, including a Single-Phase AC Residential, a Three-Phase AC Commercial with OCPP and SoC and a Three-Phase AC Commercial with OCPP and Display.

     The reliability and performance of electric vehicle chargers are critical to driving adoption in the global market. Electric vehicle manufacturers are focused on providing the most rugged, weather-resistant, user-friendly electric vehicle chargers. To accelerate time to market for electric vehicle chargers, Microchip Technology has announced three flexible and scalable reference designs for electric vehicle chargers, including single-phase AC residential, three-phase AC commercial with OCPP and SoC, and three-phase AC commercial with OCPP and display.

     The company supplies most of the active components for EV charger reference designs, including MCUS, analog front ends, memory, connectivity, and power conversion. This greatly simplifies the integration process, enabling manufacturers to accelerate time to market for new charging solutions.

     "Microchip's E-Mobility team is focused on developing reference designs that customers can directly use and benefit from," said Joe Thomsen, vice president of Microchip's Digital Signal Controllers business unit. "We want to help our customers shorten the design cycle by offering complete solutions, such as these new EV charger reference designs, as well as providing hardware, software and technical support."

     The company's EV charger reference design allows manufacturers to scale according to different solutions in the target market to meet the needs of residential and commercial charging applications. These reference designs provide complete hardware design files and source code, as well as a software stack that has been tested and conforms to communication protocols, including OCPP. OCPP provides manufacturers with a standard communication protocol between a charging point or charging station and a central system. The protocol is designed to allow interoperability of billing applications regardless of network or vendor.
