Melexis introduced the MLX73290-M. The multi-channel RF transceiver IC leverage the company's long-established technical expertise in low-power wireless implementations. Catering to Sub-GHz ISM frequency bands from 300MHz to 960MHz, the product offers two RF channels, each with a programmable RF power transmitter and a high sensitivity RF receiver. It is fully programmable through its serial Peripheral Interface (SPI).
The IC is ideal for sub-GHz wireless applications such as home/building automation, tire pressure monitoring (TPMS), automatic meter reading (AMR), alarm systems, passive keyless entry (PKE), medical diagnostics, and telemetry. Its output power level ranges from -20dBm to 13dBm, while its receive sensitivity can reach -120dBm in a 15kHz bandwidth. With a maximum data rate of 250kbps, the transceiver is also capable of handling higher data throughput.
Due to the high degree of programmability, engineers will have a lot of leeway to adopt this chip in terms of configuring and implementing the RF front end. Users can adjust a wide variety of different RF parameters (number of channels, frequency resolution, output, frequency deviation, etc.) to meet specific application standards. The chip supports on-off keying (OOK), binary frequency shift keying (FSK), minimum frequency shift keying (MSK), Gaussian minimum frequency shift keying (GMSK) and Gaussian Frequency shift keying (GFSK) modulation schemes.
Two RF power detectors provide enhanced radiated power performance during transmission. The energy harvesting interface allows battery-free power supply through the combined use of solar cells and supercapacitors. This highlights its value in remote locations where power lines are lacking. In addition, evaluation boards and software tools are available. The MLX73290-M is available in a 5mm x 5mm 32-pin QFN package. Its operating temperature range is -40℃ to 105℃.
