Melexis has announced the launch of an advanced magnetic position sensor chip, the MLX90427. With its high performance and reliability, this new sensor provides a precise position detection solution for critical applications in the automotive market, such as steering systems and gearshift operations.

     The MLX90427 is a high-precision magnetic sensor chip based on the Hall effect, which provides excellent temperature stability and anti-interference capability, even in harsh environments. The chip's compact package design makes it ideal for use in space-tight automotive systems.

     The core of the MLX90427 is its advanced Triaxis Hall magnetic sensing element, which accurately senses and measures the three components of magnetic flux density (Bx, By and Bz), ensuring that the magnet is accurately captured by the chip no matter what direction it moves. The MLX90427 is also equipped with a high-precision analog to digital converter (ADC), a powerful digital signal processor (DSP) to assist in processing signal tasks, and an output-stage driver chip for SPI signal output.

     In the steering system, the MLX90427 can monitor the Angle and angular speed of the steering shaft in real time, ensuring that the driver can accurately grasp the direction of the vehicle and improve the safety and comfort of driving. In the transmission shift operation, the sensor can accurately detect the position of the shift lever, ensuring a smooth and smooth shift process, while improving the efficiency and life of the transmission system.

     The MLX90427 is AEC-Q100 (Level 0) certified, known for its inherent high reliability, and complies with the ISO26262 ASIL C SEooC (Safety Element for All Environments) standard, supporting system-level integration up to ASIL D levels. In safety-critical applications such as steering columns, the MLX90427 works with sensor chips using different detection technologies to achieve various levels of functional safety through heterogeneous redundancy technology thanks to its excellent stray-field immunity and EMC robustness.

     The MLX90427 magnetic position sensor chip uses innovative signal processing technology to enable high-precision measurements over a wide magnetic field range. In addition, the chip is also characterized by low power consumption and low cost, making it an ideal choice for automakers and tier 1 suppliers.
