Maxim introduces Teridian three-phase power measurement system on chip
Maxim Integrated introduces the Teridian three-phase Power Measurement System-on-Chip (SoC) 78M6631 for power monitoring of high-power loads. A fully integrated customizable power measurement system with complete measurement and diagnostic functions simplifies design and reduces costs. The 78M6631 is suitable for a variety of applications that require monitoring of three-phase power and supply quality, including: industrial control panels, motors, solar panel inverters, storage power supplies, and data centers.
"In end-use applications that require three-phase power monitoring, accurate power measurement is essential," says Jay Cormier, Director of Power Measurement and Communications at Maxim Integrated Products. "In applications that use three-phase electricity, monitoring power usage is important for controlling power consumption and energy efficiency in data centers, factories and buildings. The 78M6631 reduces downtime with powerful capabilities for measuring, diagnosing, and optimizing point-load failures before equipment fails."
The fully integrated power measurement chip has a built-in metering engine and is capable of diagnosing various power parameters, including power factor, harmonic distortion, voltage drop or offset. The 78M6631 ensures better than 0.5% system accuracy over a wide dynamic range of 2000:1, allowing the use of smaller resistors as current sensors to reduce heat loss and parasitic power consumption. The device's built-in flash memory allows for on-chip calibration and field upgrades, greatly increasing application flexibility. In addition, the 78M6631's pre-loaded firmware supports Delta and Y three-phase applications, reducing development costs and time-to-market.
