Marvell is introducing the industry's first combined Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0 and 802.11p solutions for Connected vehicles (V2X) and in-vehicle infotainment (IVI)

     Marvell, a leader in semiconductor solutions for storage, networking and wireless connectivity, announced the 88W8987xA, the world's first automotive IC with integrated Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, vehicle-to-vehicle and infrastructure capabilities. This highly advanced IC supports Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0 and 802.11p, making it the perfect solution for in-car applications.

     Today's connected cars are placing unprecedented demands on reliable and high-performance wireless connectivity, and the need for in-vehicle infotainment (IVI), secure telematics, in-vehicle wireless gateways, and enhanced security features have greatly increased the cost and complexity of automotive electronics development. Marvell's revolutionary 88W8987xA series package compatible solutions enable automakers to simplify wireless implementations and quickly deliver market-leading features to their customers. Building on Marvell's experience in providing reliable, stable and safe automotive ics, this fourth-generation wireless solution is functionally optimized for automotive product requirements and complies with the highest quality AEC-Q100 Level 2 standards.

     The 88W8987xA wireless product family complements our previously announced 88Q2112 Automotive Ethernet Physical Layer (PHY) transceiver to provide a complete wired and wireless connectivity solution for the connected car. The 88Q2112 enables 1000BASE-T1 Gigabit Ethernet over a single twisted pair copper cable, making it the ideal lightweight solution for distributing high-resolution video, audio and voice for advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and IVI applications.

     In addition to supporting the growing demand for IVI and emerging screen projection technologies, The 88W8987xA's 802.11p capabilities also enable a new era of safety and autonomous driving by supporting National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)/ Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) and Dedicated Short Range Communications (DSRC) pending requirements. The 88W8987xA is also the first wireless combination solution to support Bluetooth 5.0, including Bluetooth Low Power Arrival and Departure Angles (AoA/AoD), and 802.11mc, which will provide automakers with exciting new usage models for wearables and phones, enabling new access, personalization, and automotive location services.

     The 88W8987xA provides flexibility in system design and interoperates with multiple host SOCs, hardware HSM, WAVE(1609.x) protocol stacks, and operating systems. The 88W8987xA driver is readily available for Android, Linux and QNX systems.
