Marvell introduces an enhanced end-to-end LTE-PON platform
Marvell announced the launch of an enhanced end-to-end LTE-PON platform. The platform enables end users to quickly and efficiently access information in home and public clouds. In today's world, consumers are increasingly dependent on cloud access, where people access information from multiple locations and on the move. To address this trend, Marvell has introduced an LTE platform that ensures optimal data processing, transfer, and storage, ultimately helping service providers deliver on the promise of next-generation network performance. Marvell will demonstrate the solution this week at the Interop 2012 conference in Las Vegas, USA.
"Marvell's new LTE platform sets a new standard for quality of experience," said Paul Valentine, vice president of marketing for Marvell's Cloud Services and Infrastructure (CSI) business unit. To realize its vision of a 'Connected Lifestyle,' Marvell is committed to providing a comprehensive technology foundation for a range of services and applications. We know that consumers will use their LTE devices to access data-intensive content in multiple clouds from wherever they are. Marvell enables service providers to meet these needs, which in turn helps service providers gain a significant competitive advantage."
Marvell's LTE platform consists of a comprehensive suite of devices that includes home cloud gateways, cellular base stations, mobile backhaul transport, service gateways, optical transport, and content, media, and storage server components. All of these devices provide comprehensive LTE software ecosystem support for Marvell's ARM-based eNodeB, EPC and UE solutions. Most importantly, the platform is above industry standards in terms of speed, performance, capacity and scalability.
The home cloud terminal consists of Marvell's highly integrated Avanta Universal Uni-PON gateway, Avastar Beamforming WLAN and PXA's flexible LTE global standard, which was introduced at Mobile World Congress (MWC2012) in February. Avanta is the first single-chip product to support GPON, EPON, China's EPON, and point-to-point Metropolitan Ethernet Access (MEA), and it is also a highly integrated gateway solution that supports next-generation connected televisions, enhanced on-demand video, and real-time content delivery. The LTE standard uses a single-chip architecture that supports the latest LTE, TDD-LTE, FDD-LET, WB-CDMA, TD-SCDMA and EGPRS technologies, enabling true global mobile coverage and level 4 rates of up to 150 Mbps on downlinks.
For LTE cell base stations, Marvell uses the renowned ARMADA XP chipset and multi-core ARM processor, and provides comprehensive software support for Layer 1 to Layer 3 protocols and applications. The LTE service gateway also uses a multi-core ARM processor to support evolved packet core (EPC) services. Features include: The solution can be scaled from small cells to macro cells (fly cells, micro cells, micro cells and macro cells); A comprehensive software ecosystem that supports service gateways, packet data network gateways, mobile management, and interoperability with carrier UE devices; It can support 6 million to 10 million users.
LTE mobile backhaul uses Marvell's Xelerated® programmable network processor and switch, making migration from traditional PTN to IP-RAN very easy; Flexible, hardware-based OAM support Provide comprehensive, 5-level hierarchical QoS (QoS); Capacity ADAPTS from cellular base stations to multi-Tbit frame devices. Marvell's Prestera® chipset can be used in optical transport networks with a capacity of several Tbits per chip and offers multiple 100G ports, making it ideal for connecting optical transport networks to data center gateways.
Together, ARMADA, Xelerated and Prestera combine to provide a public cloud solution for content, media and storage servers. These efficient, low-power processors and switches are used to support the explosive growth of mobile users, machine-to-machine clients for content and media delivery, Hadoop and in-memory cache storage servers for acceleration and cloud caching, and ultimately programmable switching for server and storage load balancing.
