Littelfuse introduces the first SCR thyristor capable of handling 600V 40Arms and 150°C junction temperatures
Littelfuse has introduced the 40A series of standard high temperature silicon controlled rectifier (SCR) thyristors suitable for use as switches in rectifier and phase control applications, such as voltage regulators, heating and motor speed control. The new SJxx40x series is Littelfuse's first SCR thyristor capable of handling 600V, 40Arms and junction temperatures up to 150°C.
The SJxx40x series is designed to avoid overheating and thermal runaway problems caused by the SCR due to the limited cooling capacity of the equipment or occasional overload situations. It can be triggered by a few milliamps of current at conditions below 1.5V.
Typical applications for SJxx40x series SCR thyristors include rectifiers for a variety of end uses, including AC solid-state switches, industrial power tools, sports equipment, white goods and commercial appliances.
"SCR thyristors are able to operate at higher temperatures, which minimizes the risk of uncontrolled temperature increases in demanding applications and helps designers with limited cooling capacity overcome challenges." "Switching to the new SJxx40x series will be able to handle higher currents, or the same power with a smaller radiator," said Koichiro Yoshimoto, business development manager at Littelfuse.
The SJxx40x series SCR thyristors provide the following key benefits:
● Capable of handling high load currents and occasional overloads with limited cooling capacity due to junction temperatures up to 150°C (TJ).
● To-220ab and TO-263 packages are available TO support flexible installation options and simplify device design.
● Up to 40Arms of on-state current (IT) allows the SJxx40X to handle higher load currents.
● The higher voltage rating varies over time (dv/dt), allowing the SJxx40X to withstand the higher line noise and surges commonly found in commercial AC power lines.
