Infineon introduces a new solid-state isolator that offers faster switching and up to 70% lower power consumption

     Infineon Technologies introduces a new range of solid-state isolators. The series enables faster, more reliable circuit switching and offers protection not available with optical solid-state relays (SSRS). Using coreless transformer technology, these isolators support up to 20 times higher energy transmission while providing current and temperature protection for greater reliability and lower cost. The new solid-state isolators can drive Infineon's OptiMOS™ and CoolMOS™ with up to 70% lower power consumption compared to the conventional solid-state isolators currently used to drive SCR (silicon-controlled rectifier) and thyristor solutions.

     Infineon's solid-state isolators enable solid-state relays to control loads above 1000 V and 100 A. Improved performance and reliability make coreless transformer technology suitable for advanced battery management, energy storage, renewable energy systems, and industrial and building automation system applications. With Infineon's solid-state isolated drives, engineers can further improve the efficiency of electronic and electromechanical systems.

     When used in conjunction with Infineon's CoolMOS S7 switch, these isolated drivers achieve a switch design with much lower resistance than light-driven solid-state solutions. This can extend the life of the system design and reduce costs. As with all solid-state isolators, these semiconductor devices also perform better than electromagnetic relays, such as reducing power consumption by 40% and eliminating mechanical components to achieve greater reliability.
