Infineon introduces a digital platform for efficient LED drive power
One-fifth of the world's electricity is used for lighting. LED technology has created conditions for a significant reduction in lighting energy consumption. If LED lighting technology is fully adopted, Germany alone can reduce about 13 million tons of carbon dioxide, equivalent to the total emissions of about 7 million cars; Electricity bills for office buildings in Germany could be reduced by more than 500 million euros. But how can we make it easier for industry and end users to apply LED technology? Infineon Technologies AG has developed a digital platform for LED drive power.dp digital power 2.0 enables intelligent control of LED lighting systems, thereby minimizing system energy consumption.
Digital controllers developed by Infineon, together with special software that allows lighting system manufacturers to configure the parameters according to their needs, open the door to the world of digital lighting with many advantages. Ulrich vom Bauer, Head of lighting IC Marketing at Infineon, said: "With Infineon's digital controller, the LED driver power supply can be defined at the end of production, which gives customers greater flexibility as they no longer have to design new product models at great cost. With.DP digital power 2.0, development time can be reduced by up to 70%, so customers can significantly accelerate the pace of bringing new products to market." In addition, digitization enables users to innovate in ways that analog solutions cannot.
The ICL8105 is a configurable digital Flyback controller that provides power factor correction (PFC) for constant-power LED drives from 10 to 80 W. Thanks to high integration and primary side control, the control IC requires only a small number of external components. This can reduce system costs by up to 10%. The control IC uses a powerful algorithm to support a variety of operating modes, and its advantages include high efficiency, high power factor correction, low THD, etc. This results in a high-quality light source with no flickering. The control IC is equipped with an input port that supports 0 to 10 V dimming and requires no additional oscillator, including a power supply. Active Burst Mode significantly expands the dimming range while preventing undesirable effects such as flickering or shimmer. To protect LED lights in the event of excessive temperature, the ICL8105 automatically reduces the output current in the event of overload.
The ILD2111 is a configurable digital Buck controller designed as a constant current source to provide output current control for LED drives ranging from 10 to 150 W. Therefore, this control IC can meet the needs of different commercial LED lighting. The ILD2111 also requires only a few external components. The output current can be set easily and accurately by the resistor and is compatible with the LEDset interface. This control IC enables flicker-free PWM dimming down to 1%. It can also automatically select the operating window to optimistically regulate different loads according to the switching frequency and output current ripple. The output voltage of the controller is 15 to 55 VDC. In addition, a large number of user configurable protection features, including undervoltage and overvoltage, short circuit, overcurrent or overtemperature protection, and more.
Both driver ics offer users the benefits of digital technology, including the ability to configure LED power on site using software. In addition to greater flexibility, this also means material cost savings. In today's highly fragmented lighting market, this is an important competitive advantage.
