Infineon introduced RISC-V to the automotive industry and will be the first to introduce the automotive-grade RISC-V MCU family

     Infineon Technologies AG will launch a new family of automotive microcontrollers (MCUS) based on RISC-V in the next few years, leading the adoption of RISC-V in the automotive industry. The new family will be integrated into Infineon's established automotive MCU brand AURIX™, expanding the company's current automotive MCU portfolio based on TriCore™ (AURIX™ TC family) and Arm® (TRAVEO™ family, PSOC™ family). This new AURIX™ family will cover a wide range of automotive applications from entry-level MCUS all the way up to high-performance MCUS, extending the range beyond what is currently available on the market. At Embedded World 2025, Infineon will unveil a virtual prototype, implemented with key ecosystem partners, that will serve as an entry-level package for Infineon partners to begin pre-silicon software development.

     Infineon is the global leader in the automotive MCU market with 28.5% market share (source: TechInsights: Automotive Semiconductor Supplier Market share, 2001-2023). The company has been working with other leading players in the semiconductor industry through the Quintauris joint venture to accelerate the industrialization of RISC-V based products. Infineon is the first semiconductor supplier to announce the launch of the automotive-grade RISC-V MCU family.

     To facilitate the adoption of this future product range, Infineon is working closely with its software and tool partners to build a comprehensive ecosystem. The Virtual Prototyping Starter Kit, presented at Embedded World 2025, is based on a suite of tools from Infineon's strategic partner Synopsys. The suite supports Infineon partners in developing development software and tool products for Infineon's RISC-V architecture even before this MCU hardware is available, and will therefore help accelerate the development and development of this ecosystem.

     Several partners are already using the software development kit and will demonstrate the first solutions at Embedded World 2025, These include IAR, Elektrobit, Green Hills, HighTec, Lauterbach, PLS, Synopsys and Taskin. More partners will be added throughout 2025. Based on their solution, the virtual prototype will be developed into a complete digital twin for Infineon's future MCU family, enabling customers to conduct development testing ahead of time and significantly reducing time to market.
