Industrial and vehicle grade devices are added to Infineon's high voltage superjunction MOSFET family

     In static switching applications, power supply design focuses on minimizing on-off losses, optimizing thermal performance, and achieving a compact and lightweight system design while achieving high quality at low cost. To meet the demand for a new generation of solutions, Infineon Technologies is expanding its CoolMOS™ S7 series of high-voltage overjunction (SJ) MOSFETs. This family of devices is mainly suitable for switching power supplies (SMPS), solar energy systems, battery protection, solid-state relays (SSR), motor starters and solid-state circuit breakers, as well as programmable logic controllers (PLCS), lighting controls, high-voltage electronic fuses/electronic circuit breakers and (hybrid) electric vehicle on-board chargers.

     The portfolio is significantly expanded with the addition of the innovative QDPAK Top-cooled (TSC) package, which enables rich functionality in a smaller package size. These characteristics make the device extremely advantageous in low-frequency switching applications, while also reducing costs. Thanks to the new high-power QDPAK package, the current resistance of this device is only 10 mΩ, which is the lowest value in the market for products in the same voltage class and in the SMD package. The CoolMOS S7/S7A solution improves overall efficiency by minimizing on-off losses in MOSFET products and provides an easy to use and cost-effective way to improve system performance.

     The CoolMOS S7 power switch also effectively manages heat dissipation with improved thermal resistance, reducing or even eliminating the need for heat sinks in solid-state designs by adopting an innovative and efficient QDPAK package, making the system more compact and lightweight. The MOSFETs are available in top-heat and bottom-heat packages that can withstand high pulse currents and cope with sudden surge currents. In addition, this family of MOSFETs has the robustness of a body diode to ensure reliable operation during commutation of AC lines.

     With fewer components required, CoolMOS™ S7 Series High voltage overjunction (SJ) MOSFETs reduce the number of components for flexible system integration, reducing BOM (Bill of Materials) costs and total cost of ownership (TCO). At the same time, this series of MOSFET products can also reduce the reaction time, especially in the disconnection current, can be more smooth and efficient operation.
