IDT introduces low-distortion mixers for 4G wireless base station transceivers

     Integrated Device Technology announced that it has launched the industry's lowest-power low-distortion diversified mixer for 4G wireless base stations. As part of the IDT Zero-Distortion family, the new device reduces power consumption while reducing distortion in Long Term Evolution (LTE) and Time Division duplex (TDD) wireless communication architectures. IDT is committed to providing the industry with a complete RF card signal chain from antennas to digital signal processors (DSPS), and the new LTE mixer is an important RF product in this strategy.

     The IDTF1162 is a low-power, low-distortion, dual-channel 2300-2700 MHz RF to IF mixer with superlinear (+43 dBm) third-order intermodulation interception point (IP3O) for excellent intermodulation rejection, ideal for multi-carrier, multi-mode cellular systems in 4G wireless base station transceivers. Compared to competing solutions, the IDTF1162 improves IM3 distortion by up to 18 dB while reducing power consumption by an industry-leading 40% (typical value of 1150 mW). These features reduce the heat dissipation requirements of RF cards and allow infrastructure providers to adopt higher average front-end gain Settings, resulting in a higher signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). An improved receiver SNR of up to 0.4 dB will allow wireless operators to expand coverage and increase the available data rate around users' mobile phones.

     Tom Sparkman, IDT's vice president and general manager of Communications, said: "Our latest mixer product is yet another example of IDT's entry into the $600 million RF card market for wireless infrastructure. Following the previous IDTF1150 and IDTF1152, the IDTF1162 offers higher frequency inputs that meet all the industry-leading benefits customers expect from IDT. These products complement other solutions from IDT's wireless signal chain Solutions portfolio, including Serial RapidIO, high-performance clock products and data compression."

     The IDTF1162 provides fast, stable and constant local oscillator (LO) input impedance on power-on. This allows customers to reduce mixer power consumption between time division duplex (TDD) receiver slots, further reducing power consumption. In addition, the device is designed to operate at a continuous packing temperature of 100°, an important feature for ics in densely packed remote RF head housings. Similar to the rest of the IDT RF mixer family, the IDTF1162 is pin-compatible with existing devices in the market, providing compelling upgrade options.
