IAR provides full support for the NXP S32M2 to enhance motor control capabilities

IAR, the global leader in embedded development software and services, has now fully supported NXP Semiconductors' new motor control chip S32M2. The S32M2 series is the latest enhanced version of NXP's Arm® Cortex-based S32 vehicle computing platform, featuring high efficiency for body and comfort applications designed to reduce in-car noise and increase passenger comfort. IAR Embedded Workbench for Arm® contains powerful compiler and debugging solutions that are already available for the latest S32M2 to help the automotive industry move towards software-defined electric vehicles.

     IAR, the global leader in embedded development software and services, has now fully supported NXP Semiconductors' new motor control chip S32M2. The S32M2 series is the latest enhanced version of NXP's Arm® Cortex-based S32 vehicle computing platform, featuring high efficiency for body and comfort applications designed to reduce in-car noise and increase passenger comfort. IAR Embedded Workbench  for Arm® contains powerful compiler and debugging solutions that are already available for the latest S32M2 to help the automotive industry move towards software-defined electric vehicles.

     The S32M2 series is a highly integrated motor control solution based on the Arm Cortex-M microcontroller core. While similar to NXP's S32K MCU products, this new family adds high pressure simulation capabilities and high efficiency for automotive applications such as pumps, fans, sunroof and seat adjustments, seat belt pretensioners or trunk openers. The S32M2's system-level package integrates automotive standards-compliant, application-centric features such as a voltage regulator powered directly from a 12V automotive battery, a physical communication interface (LIN, CXPI, or CAN FD), a MOSFET gate driver for motor control, and non-volatile memory (from 128KB to 1MB). To reduce the total number of components. This enables automakers to reduce printed circuit board (PCB) area, reduce design risk and material costs, and accelerate product to market.

     The IAR Embedded Workbench for Arm is a comprehensive development environment that has long supported NXP's widely adopted S32K microcontrollers and is now extended to support the new S32M2 family, making software reuse even more efficient. This comprehensive C/C++ package includes a highly optimized compiler and advanced debugging and analysis capabilities, including integrated power monitoring. In addition to highly optimized build tools, easy-to-use code analysis add-ons such as the IAR C-STAT Static code analysis tool, the IAR C-RUN Dynamic Analysis tool, and the C-SPY debugger can help developers identify potential code issues and bugs early in the development process to optimize overall code quality. IAR Embedded Workbench for Arm also offers an ISO 26262-certified functional safety version that fully matches the development process of the S32K, which is also ASIL B certified to ISO 26262.
