     Diodes Incorporated introduced the AP9211, a battery protection device designed to enable single-core lithium-ion battery packs to operate safely. The new product integrates the protection chip and double N-channel MOSFETs to provide a series of functions such as overcharge and discharge and load short circuit detection. This protection circuit is aimed at manufacturers that supply battery protection circuit modules to battery pack manufacturers, with the main end market being single-cell battery packs for smartphones and mobile power supplies.

     The AP9211 combines the battery protection chip and the standard dual N-channel co-drain MOSFETs into a 3mm x 2mm six-pin U-DFN2030-6 package. This ultra-thin package of less than 0.6mm enables a slimmer protection board design that increases battery capacity for specific battery sizes. The chip continuously monitors voltage and current to quickly turn off the MOSFETs, thereby preventing overcharge and discharge situations such as load short circuits.

     The AP9211 goes a step further and uses a complementary metal-oxy-semiconductor (CMOS) process with voltages up to 30V that are strong enough to withstand surge voltages. The process also ensures high-precision voltage detection and stable temperature coefficient performance. The low static current of the device is 3.0μA in normal mode and only up to 0.1μA in power-off mode. Other features include built-in fixed delay circuit, which effectively reduces the number of external components.
