Cypress introduces the world's most flexible single-chip ARM Cortex-M0 solution

     Cypress Semiconductor introduces a new family of its PSoC 4 programmable system-on-chip architecture. The new PSoC 4L series is the industry's most integrated single-chip solution with a 32-bit ARM® -Cortex-M0 core, 256KB of flash memory, 98 general-purpose I/O, 33 programmable analog and digital modules, a USB device controller and a control Local Area Network (CAN) interface. The PSoC 4L series addresses product changes with the flexibility of the PSoC architecture and uses Cypress's industry-leading CapSense capacitive touch sensing technology for a reliable and beautiful user interface, making it the ideal solution for a variety of industrial and consumer applications.

     John Weil, vice president of MCU marketing at Cypress, said: "The award-winning PSoC 4 product line enables customers to easily migrate from their proprietary 8-bit and 16-bit MCUS to the industry's most integrated ARM Cortex-M0 systems on chip. The PSoC 4L series introduces new features such as the up to 94-channel dual mutual capacitance CapSense module required for home appliances with large capacitive touch interfaces; USB and programmable digital modules for the development of "bit-perfect" digital audio solutions. In addition, the family has all the resources needed to build an emerging USB Type-C product."

     The PSoC 4L series is equipped with up to 13 programmable analog modules, including four high-performance operational amplifiers, four current-output digital-to-analog converters (IDacs), two low-power comparators, a 12-bit SAR ADC, and a dual CapSense module that supports up to 94 capacitive sensing channels. The programmable analog module enables engineers to customize the analog front end on chip and implement new features of the end product without increasing the cost, size, and power consumption of the product.

     The PSoC 4L series is equipped with up to 20 programmable digital modules, including 8 timer/counter /PWM modules, 4 serial communication modules and 8 Universal digital modules (UDBs). The programmable digital modules each contain two programmable logic devices, one programmable data channel, and status and control registers. The UDB can be configured as a coprocessor to share the compute-intensive tasks of the ARM Cortex-M0 kernel. These modules also enable engineers to implement a variety of custom digital peripherals, state machines, or glue logic that traditional MCUS often require additional ics to implement.

     Two important pillars of the scalable PSoC 4 architecture are the easy-to-use PSoC Creator™ Integrated Development Environment (IDE) and PSoC components. PSoC Creator can realize parallel design of hardware and firmware, thus simplifying system design and speeding up product market. PSoC components are free embedded ics represented by ICONS in the IDE. They speed up the prototyping of the final application while minimizing common PCB modifications and firmware changes.
