Cypress introduces the new TrueTouch capacitive touch sensing

     Cypress Semiconductor has introduced a new line of capacitive touch controllers for the vehicle that support up to 15 "touch screens for industry-leading performance in harsh automotive environments. The new Automotive TrueTouch CYAT8168X controller uses Cypress's proprietary AutoArmor technology to provide strong protection from the strong electromagnetic interference (EMI) emitted by cars, buses and trucks. Even in the case of droplets, condensation or sweat on the touch screen, the controller guarantees a perfect user experience. In addition, the controller has industry-leading gloved finger tracking, so the driver can operate the touch screen without removing the glove.

     Cypress AutoArmor meets several of the challenging electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) standards of automotive manufacturers, including the chat-level electromagnetic emission standard (IEC 61967), conducted immunity standard (IEC 62132) and radiation immunity standard (ISO 11452), as well as the system-level immunity specification (CISPR) 25). AutoArmor uses automatic frequency hopping technology to prevent false contact caused by electromagnetic interference from other electronic systems and reduces electromagnetic radiation by up to 30% using TX frequency expansion. In addition to the proprietary AutoArmor technology, the Automotive TrueTouch CYAT8168X controller provides up to 88 channels of I/O via I2C or SPI with the host processor interface, increasing the sensitivity of the touch screen.

     The Automotive TrueTouch CYAT8168X controller family offers the industry's best accuracy and linearity, supporting finger sizes and gloves of different materials and thicknesses, including ski gloves. In addition, the controller family automatically switches between glove and finger modes without the need for the driver to manually switch Settings. Using Cypress's proprietary DualSense technology, the series performs both self-capacitance and mutual capacitance measurements in the same device, enabling the industry's best water resistance and seamless tracking of wet fingers under real-world conditions, including when droplets, condensation or sweat are present on the touch screen. The controller is based on the 32-bit ARM® Cortex® M-Core processor known for its high efficiency MIPS/mW.
