Cypress has announced a breakthrough feature for its Gen4 TrueTouch touchscreen controller

     Cypress Semiconductor announced a breakthrough feature for its Gen4 TrueTouch touch screen controller that significantly improves system performance at no additional cost. Cypress has now developed a new proprietary technology based on the patent-pending Gen4 high voltage Tx driver. Tx-Boost™ extends Gen4's performance leadership by tripledsignal-to-noise ratio (SNR) without the need for performance-impairing digital filters or external components, while also helping manufacturers deliver the industry's thinnest phones and tablets while significantly reducing material costs.

     The key to excellent touch screen performance in noisy environments is a high signal-to-noise ratio. The Gen4, with its internally generated 10V Tx circuit, can increase the original SNR by up to four times that of competing solutions that require customers to generate high-voltage Tx signals with large, expensive, high-noise external switching regulators. Tx-Boost is currently available in all TrueTouch Gen4 devices and uses specialized hardware acceleration technology to further improve the Gen4 family's already industry-best SNR by a factor of three. The high signal-to-noise ratio enables manufacturers to apply sensor-on-lens technology to displays and in-cell architectures through direct lamination, bringing perfect performance to the thinnest products on the market.

     In addition, Tx-Boost can efficiently parallel multiple operations in the hardware without placing a heavy burden on the CPU due to digital filtering capabilities. This significantly increases the scanning speed of Gen4 and increases the speed of the world's fastest touchscreen controller. In addition, these parallel operations further improve Gen4's industry-leading power consumption by increasing idle time during each scan cycle.
