Compact safety certification mlcc for fast charging electric vehicles

     TTI IP&E-Europe introduces a new mlcc series from Murata. The EVA series has qualities that are particularly needed by engineers developing the next generation of electric vehicles. Automotive powertrain applications include OBC, BMS, inverters, DC-DC converters, and other industrial, consumer, and medical implementations.

     Developed according to the IEC60384-14 safety standard, the safety-certified Y2 mlcc is particularly effective at suppressing common mode noise. These compact parts are surface-mount packaged in a 12.7mm x 6mm, 3.7mm form factor and offer a 305VAC/1500VDC voltage rating with a 10mm creepage distance. As a result, they can meet the higher isolation required by the industry's migration to 800V powertrains for faster charging capabilities while maintaining miniaturization and weight reduction.

     The capacitance ranges from 0.1nF to 4.7nF and the operating temperature ranges from -55C to +125C, conforming to the AEC-Q200 standard. Providing a greater safety margin, the mlcc has been tested to withstand high voltages of 2000VAC/60s and 4000VDC/60s to accommodate transient overvoltages such as voltage surges and switching transients. In addition, these parts exhibit low ESL, making them ideal for use at high frequencies. The metal terminal arrangement of these MLCCS provides greater elasticity and reduces the formation of solder and flexural cracks, thus ensuring long-term reliability.
