Click the board to reduce the weight and power of the final stage prototype

     MIKROE has announced that it will introduce a new feature in its line of Click boards that reduces size, weight and power consumption for secondary prototyping and production. With Click Snap, users can develop their systems in the usual way, utilizing additional peripheral boards and development boards equipped with microbus sockets. When the concept is proven and the code developed, parts of the board with specific active peripheral circuits-from sensors and communication modules to advanced audio processing and motor control-can be disconnected from the rest of the Click board and used as a SoM.

     Nebojsa Matic, CEO of MIKROE, commented: "Click boards are ideal for fast, low-cost embedded system development, saving a lot of duplication, wasted effort, and eliminating expensive development tools. However, when users need to take the next step, from an initial proof-of-concept prototype to a full-featured design, space, weight, and power consumption can become issues. By breaking the "Snap" section of our new Click Snap board, designers have instant access to parts that have been validated in their design, but are only slightly larger than their own active chips. Weight and power consumption will also be greatly reduced. They can use it for final prototypes or small series production."

     The first part of the new Snap feature is the Inclinometer 4 Click, which measures the slope or elevation of an object. The board features the FXLS8971CF, NXP Semiconductor's three-axis low-G MEMS accelerometer with an optional full scale of ±2/4/8/16g, with optional output data rate, motion detection, and 144-byte output data buffer. It is ideal for industrial and medical iot applications, including asset tracking, device monitoring, smart metering, and direction detection.

     Another advantage of the Snap feature of the Click board is that the moving part of the attached board can be located away from the development board and connected to the microbus carrier board via a flexible cable. This could be very useful for the development of sensing systems, for example.
